The AU Pep Band needs your help to buy a new Sousaphone!
What’s a Sousaphone? Of all the instruments in the Pep Band, the sousaphone is perhaps the most important. “Sousaphones are the critical bass voice that supports the sound of a pep band,” says junior music major Zach Kopin. “It is as vital to a pep band as a bass guitar is to a rock band,” says senior sousaphone player Ben Ehrlich. Ben is now in his fourth year playing sousaphone for the band and is performing on an instrument more than 30 years old. Over the past two years, the pep band’s membership has nearly tripled in size; because of this, a need for more instruments has arisen.
During the 2013-14 school year, the AU Pep Band will be performing at over 30 school sporting events including men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball games, wrestling matches, and AU’s Convocation. In addition, the Pep Band plays at many other events in the DC Area; we are a regular entertainer at the Marine Corps Marathon, the Cherry Blossom Festival, and at the Verizon Center during Washington Wizards games.
We greatly appreciate your help in making the AU Pep Band the best it can be!
