Honoring Kevin Sutherland, SPA '13

Keith Sutherland, SPA '13

Kevin Sutherland, an alumnus of the American University School of Public Affairs, was known for his love of politics and policy. The Trumbull, Connecticut native left his mark on AU as a two-term secretary of the student government, an advocate for liberal causes, and a kind and passionate friend to many. Diving into life in Washington, Kevin interned for U.S. Representative Jim Himes and after graduation, worked for New Blue Interactive, a digital strategy firm that helps Democratic candidates’ fundraising programs.

In the wake of Kevin's tragic death on July 4, 2015, family and friends are honoring his life through funds established at American University.

The Kevin Sutherland Internship Fund

The Kevin Sutherland Internship Fund was established by Kevin's co-workers to honor his keen interest in helping those who wish to pursue work in public service. The fund provides support for deserving students enrolled in an undergraduate degree program who have an internship on Capitol Hill or other federal agencies

Give to the Kevin Sutherland Internship Fund.

Kevin was a valued member of the community and a rising star in political strategy. The AU community is fortunate to have known him and hopes to honor his life by helping other students pursue their passion for public service just as Kevin did during his time at AU.
