Faculty-Staff Giving Increases
Despite the economic downturn and belt-tightening that occurred across the country this year, AU faculty and staff have made one thing clear: times may be tough, but their support for AU is stronger than ever.
Participation in the Faculty-Staff Campaign rose by 13 percent this year, from 596 donors last year to 685 this year. Total gifts from faculty emeriti and current employees exceeded half a million dollars, totaling $517,764.
Support continued to come in as the fiscal year came to a close on April 30, with payroll deductions, online gifts and last-minute checks keeping the Office of Development busy.
“This is a testament to the philanthropic spirit of the university community as a whole, and particularly the hard work of this year's Faculty-Staff Campaign Committee,” notes Thomas Minar, vice president of development and alumni relations.
Rachel Mlinarchik, associate director of parent and volunteer programming, agrees. “This committee met monthly, taking time out of their schedules to sit down with me, devise a campaign identity, and implement a grassroots strategy focusing on participation,” she says. “And I knew that, with a committee this dedicated, we would see great results.”
The Faculty-Staff Campaign allows employees to support the campus priorities of their choice, including the AU Fund for Excellence, schools and colleges, the library, and athletics.
