2016 Steps to AhealthyU Well On Track Pedometer Challenge
May 23 - July 1
Competitive and Non-Competitive team registration options available
NEW THIS YEAR:
Cash prizes for the top TEN Competitive Track teams (subject to tax) The first place team will receive the highest cash prize, the second place team will receive the second highest, and so on. The first place team will also claim the traveling trophy for the year.
Earn weekly prizes for your team Each week, AhealthyU will hold a raffle for all steppers who met their individual goal (established during registration) in the previous week. If your name is drawn, you and your teammates will enjoy your choice of either a complimentary From the Farmer bushel or vouchers to the AU Farmers Market.
Gather up your friends and colleagues around campus to form a team. Teams of exactly 4 are required for participation and should include 1 Team Captain. In addition to motivating their team, Captains will be the main point of contact during the Challenge and will be responsible for ensuring that all members follow guidelines. This includes completing the full registration (two parts - see below for more information), paying the registration fee, and submitting the release form. AhealthyU will host a Team Captain Orientation Lunch to review these items with Captains.
All teams should be formed prior to registration and each team will need a team name for identification.
Every participant must individually complete the online registration. Please confirm that there are exactly 4 people registering on your team using the same team name.
Individuals who are not on an established team should indicate that they are a "free agent" on the registration form. AhealthyU will assign all "free agents" to a team.
Every participant in the Pedometer Challenge must complete the two-part online registration:
Part I: General Registration Form: Registration is now closed. Please contact AhealthyU for questions.
Part II: Supplemental Well on Track Registration: Registration is now closed. Please contact AhealthyU for questions. See additional instructions below:
When registering for the Part II: Supplemental Well on Track Registration, you will identify the device/app you wish to use (be sure you have an account set up for your specific device you'll be using).
You will receive an email with the subject "Validic Registration Information" and you must follow the unique link sent in that email to finalize your registration.
You will then select the application you have chosen and login to accept the terms and conditions for Well on Track to begin tracking your steps.
When reviewing access for your device, you MUST allow the following fields in order to be eligible for this program: PROFILE, DEVICES AND SETTINGS, ACTIVITY AND EXERCISE - note that depending on your device, these fields may be defined with slightly different names.
Once you have successfully connected your device, you should see green text at the top of the webpage confirming that you have linked your device.
Registering for the Well on Track platform ensures that AhealthyU receives your step data. After you register for it, you will not access this platform to view your steps; instead, you will only access your own device's platform (Fitbit, Jawbone, etc.) to view your own steps and AhealthyU will post weekly standings via email and on the Pedometer Challenge webpage.
Deadline for registration is Close of Business Monday, May 9.
Registration is $5 for those with a compatible device, and $15 for those wishing to purchase a device through AhealthyU. All registrants must submit the registration payment and signed Release Form in order to participate in the Challenge. Checks can be made payable to "American University."
There are several options for finalizing these registration items:
1. Visit the AhealthyU Office in MGC 330-O beginning Monday, May 2 any day of the workweek from 10:00am to 3:00pm.
2. Send your Release Form and registration payment via campus mail to AhealthyU in MGC 330-O
3. Scan and email your signed Release Form to AhealthyU (please submit your payment through one of the previous options)
Participants who purchase a device from AhealthyU may pick up the device from the AhealthyU office (MGC 330-O) Monday, May 2nd through Monday, May 9th from 10am - 3pm.
*Step tracking devices are designed to count steps taken for the individual who is wearing the device. Certain activities, like bike riding, where the user is not taking steps will record some "steps" on the pedometer. Steps recorded during these activities will generally be lower than steps recorded during activities like walking and jogging.
To maintain the integrity and intent of the program, AhealthyU asks that you engage in activities that are intended to promote cardiovascular health, such as walking, jogging, and other physical activities
Need some help getting in steps during the Challenge? AhealthyU has many physical activity opportunities available to faculty and staff members. CLICK HERE to visit our AhealthyU Calendar to find great activities like Yoga, Zumba, Cardio Strength, and more.
The 2016 Pedometer Challenge is all about having fun, moving more, and winning prizes with your team. Teams will either participate in the Competitive Track or in the Non-Competitive Track, with unique ways to win prizes for both options.
Competitive Track Prizes: CASH prizes will be awarded to all team members* from the top 10 teams in the Competitive Track. Teams will be ranked based on their total team steps over the course of the entire 6-week Pedometer Challenge. The prize pot will be determined by the number of participants in the Pedometer Challenge, as each $5 registration fee is put directly into the prize pot. The first place team will receive the highest cash prize, the second place team will receive the second highest, and so on. The first place team will also claim the traveling trophy for the year.
Individuals in the Competitive Track will also have the opportunity to earn prizes for themselves. All participants who meet or exceed their personal goal (established during registration) will win their choice of an AhealthyU athletic wicking t-shirt, a pair of CoolMax walking socks, an AhealthyU yoga block, an AhealthyU hat, or an AhealthyU Group Fitness Class Week Pass.
Non-Competitive Track Prizes:
Beat your team goal. It's as simple as that to earn prizes in the Non-Competitive Track. All team members on teams who meet or exceed their total team goal will win their choice of an AhealthyU athletic wicking t-shirt, a pair of CoolMax walking socks, an AhealthyU yoga block, an AhealthyU hat, or an AhealthyU Group Fitness Class Week Pass.
Total team goals will be calculated based on the average daily step total goal submitted by each member of the team during registration. Participants in the Non-Competitive Track will have the opportunity to earn individual prizes should their team fail to meet its goal. All participants on teams that do not surpass their total team goal, but who meet or exceed their own personal goal (established during registration) will win their choice of an AhealthyU athletic wicking t-shirt, a pair of CoolMax walking socks, an AhealthyU yoga block, an AhealthyU hat, or an AhealthyU Group Fitness Class Week Pass.
Note: Participants in the Non-Competitive Track are eligible for one prize each (either through meeting their team goal or through meeting their individual step goal).
*Participants must receive paychecks on a bi-weekly or monthly pay schedule from American University at the time of registration to qualify for cash prizes. Taxes are applicable to all cash prizes.
