(NON-TENURE TRACK)
The
American University Kogod School of Business
invites applications
and nominations for two renewable full-time
non-tenure track accounting and tax faculty
positions beginning Fall 2008. Candidates
must be capable of teaching advanced courses
in the Master of Science in Accounting
(MSA) and the Master of Science in Taxation
(MST)
curricula. Although all accounting faculty
are expected to participate in the scholarly
work of the Kogod Accounting and Taxation
Department, these positions are primarily
designated for outstanding teachers who
can also contribute to the Department’s
various service and professional outreach
activities.
Candidates must have CPA or equivalent
credentials as well as substantial professional
experience.
An appropriate master’s degree is
required, and an accounting or tax doctorate
is desired
but not essential. A record of successful
teaching at the university level is highly
valued. Faculty rank will be commensurate
with candidate qualifications.
Salary and benefits are highly competitive.

OPEN RANK FINANCE POSITIONS

The Kogod School of Business at American
University in Washington, DC, invites applications
for one or more temporary or visiting faculty
positions in Finance. All appointments start
in Fall 2008. These one-year positions may
be renewable but are not tenure-track. The
ranks are open. The appointments are subject
to final budgetary approval.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
This is an opportunity to teach introductory
and core finance courses, and/or personal
finance, to bright, motivated undergraduate
and MBA students at one of the most
entrepreneurial business schools in
the country. An active research program
is a plus. The positions offer salary
and benefits commensurate to the candidate’s
rank and experience.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
The Department of Finance and Real Estate
currently has nine tenured or tenure-track
faculty members, one visitor, and an
executive in residence. Department
members have published and continue
to publish in top outlets, such as
the Journal of Finance; Journal of
Financial Economics; Review of Financial
Studies;
Journal of Financial
and Quantitative Analysis; American Economic
Review; International Economic Review;
Journal of Law and Economics; and other
leading journals in finance, economics
and real estate. The department has an
active research seminar series, with
papers presented weekly by inside and
outside researchers. The group is collegial
and works as a team to further individual
academic interests and goals. We seek
enthusiastic and well-trained teachers
who will fit in well with this active
group.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
We seek individuals who have earned high
ratings teaching core undergraduate
or MBA finance courses. Candidates
with experience in, and desire to teach,
international finance, personal finance,
and/or corporate finance will receive
priority consideration. Applicants
must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent
degree in finance. A research and publication
record is desirable, but candidates
must be committed to excellence in
teaching.
Temporary position (rank open) : Economists
and financial economists with a demonstrated
record of quality teaching and research
in finance will be given strong consideration.
Visiting position (rank open): For a
visiting position, consideration will
be given to those applicants who are
on leave from the full- time teaching
faculty of an accredited college or university
(or from a comparable educational, research,
or policy institution) and who wish to
teach at American University while on
a 1- or 2-semester sabbatical leave from
their institutions.

EXECUTIVE-IN-RESIDENCE
(TEMPORARY)
The Kogod School of Business at American
University in Washington DC invites applications
for the position of Executive in Residence
in Real Estate. The position will start
in Fall 2008. The appointment is for between
one and three years on a contract basis
and is not tenure-track. The appointment
is subject to final budgetary approval.
JOB
DESCRIPTION
a. Building Academic Programs. Over a three-year
time frame, there are program targets.
Building enrollment in the Master of
Science in Finance and Real Estate (30
credit hours). An enrollment target is
20 full-time equivalent students. There
is a separate graduate-level Certificate
in Real Estate (15 credit hours), and the
target enrollment is 10 students.
The Department offers a graduate concentration
in Real Estate in its MBA program. At the
undergraduate level, the Department offers
a major and minor in Real Estate. The target
at the undergraduate level is to raise
enrollment by 25% over the 2007-2008 base.
b. Development, Fundraising and Outreach.
Constructing an Advisory Board in Real
Estate, constituted with ongoing membership
donations and contributions. Building an
endowment base in real estate and finance.
c. Teaching. Teaching two courses per semester.
The Fall Semester is from late August to
early December and the Spring Semester is from
mid-January to early May. Any additional
teaching will be separately compensated.

REAL ESTATE IN THE KOGOD SCHOOL
OF BUSINESS
American University has more than 2,000
alumni and friends located around the
United States and the world. The program
has been ranked in the top thirty in
real estate by professional journals,
in its undergraduate and MBA-with concentration
offerings. Kogod’s real estate
courses attract students from nearby
schools including Georgetown, Maryland,
and George Washington. Alumni of the
program work in appraisal, mortgage finance,
development, asset and property management,
investment and marketing and brokerage.
The Department of Finance and Real Estate
has 150 finance and real estate majors
at the undergraduate level, more than
half of all majors in the Kogod School
of Business. The Department has a similar
proportion among concentrations in the
MBA program. There are 10-15 students
that graduate annually with a job focus
from Kogod’s graduate programs
in real estate.
QUALIFICATIONS
Seeking an individual with experience in
managing a real estate or finance graduate
program. Alternative experience is in
the business community, particularly
in a real estate firm, with extensive
contacts. A graduate degree up to a Ph.D.
is required, with a specialization in
real estate, finance or a related field.
Teaching experience with strong evaluations
is preferred.

Qualifications include:
- PhD in field of international business
or related field in business or international
relations, if ABD, anticipated completion
by August 29, 2008;
- Academic and business background that
would allow the individual to develop teaching
expertise in: a) fundamentals of international
business (undergraduate), and b) one or
more of international marketing, export/import
management, project finance courses (graduate
and undergraduate);
