Human Resources Newsletter

February 2015

Message from Beth Muha,
Assistant Vice President of Human Resources

Beth Muha, Assistant Vice President of Human Resources2015 is off to a busy start as we head into February. Many of us make resolutions in the New Year but research shows that most people abandon their resolutions by February. I want to encourage you to make time for your resolutions and to take advantage of the many programs that HR offers to assist with your wellness, career, and financial objectives.

To help meet your wellness goals, AhealthyU is helping nearly 200 faculty and staff manage their weight and live healthier lifestyles with the eight-week AhealthyU Weight Loss Challenge which started on January 26. Additionally, the popular group fitness classes exclusively for faculty and staff also began on January 26 and feature yoga and spin classes. A few of these classes are held at remote locations to make them more accessible to everyone, so please check the AhealthyU website for the class schedule.

Other returning AhealthyU programs include Weight Watchers at Work® and the Farmers Market, both held on the main campus. Watch for announcements for upcoming cooking demonstrations, the Couch to 5K program, and other AhealthyU programs.

To help meet your career goals in 2015, enroll in the professional development courses that interest you. By investing time in your development, you can gain new skills and knowledge and open the door for new opportunities.

To help meet your financial goals, personal, one-on-one financial planning sessions are offered on campus by Fidelity and TIAA-CREF. You also can access online financial education videos, tools, and calculators on the AhealthyU site or on the myBenefits Retirement information page.

The Office of Human Resources offers you benefits, tools, and resources to help you be more productive and fulfilled at work.

Please send me your comments and suggestions about our programs.

Wishing you a successful 2015,

Beth Muha

How does Your Unconscious Bias Affect Your Decisions and Actions?

We all have natural preferences that influence our decision making every day. It’s called unconscious bias, and it’s a real thing – we all have it, and it’s important to be aware of it. Whether you’re making decisions around hiring, purchasing, promotions, and job assignments, or just interacting with peers and colleagues, your unconscious bias influences your thoughts, actions, interactions, and decisions.

The HR Recruiting Team offers a workshop to provide information and guidance on understanding the decisions we make and the challenges and opportunities we face in the workplace through the lens of our natural preferences.

Get more information. To learn more about how your unconscious bias affects your decisions, register for the February 19 session on AsuccessfulU. Questions? Please call Employee Relations at x2607.
