Spotlights on AU Centers
AMERICAN UNIVERSITY HAS NUMEROUS ACADEMIC CENTERS on campus that engage faculty and
students and lecturers from around the world. The Centers are called Councils and Institutes, but they can be
grouped in three categories:
- Nine Regional Centers study different parts of the world;
- Six democracy-related Centers associated with Democracy @ AU focus on different dimensions of elections,
politics, and democracy; and
- Other Centers focus on a wide range of issues and specialties.
The Faculty associated with the Centers do research, teach courses, consult in the United States or abroad, and
many try to influence the public policy debate. The Centers all sponsor lectures, organize conferences and other events.
In this and subsequent pages we have highlighted several centers and their activities.
