| Many countries with highly developed IT activity often have high-tech cybercities similar to California 's Silicon Valley . A cybercity develops when a cluster of IT activity is located around one geographic area. These cybercities, or technology parks, are important for several reasons. Having a cluster of IT activity in one area allows for the generation of many innovative ideas. Cybercities provide a better technology infrastructure, which leads to the creation of more efficient IT. Also, technology parks attract skilled workers who can easily move from company to company. Since Singapore has an area of about 250 square miles, it can be argued that the entire country is one large cybercity. Singapore ONE focuses upon the initiative to create an all-encompassing broadband networked environment. This government project was aimed at allowing Singaporeans to exploit digital technology by "wiring" all citizens, government and businesses. Singapore ONE is a joint effort of the National Computer Board, National Science and Technology Board, Telecommunication Authority of Singapore, Economic Development Board, and Singapore Broadcasting Authority.[39] Programs such as Singapore One have created a solid technology infrastructure for the country, which has led to the creation of an “ Intelligent Island ”.[40] This infrastructure facilitates the exchange of innovative ideas and attracts local skilled workers as well as knowledgeable employees from all over the world. |
