National IT Strengths &
Weaknesses

After researching the technology landscape of Singapore, it is clear that this country has very advanced ICT policies. Singapore's success in technology can mostly be attributed to the government who has played a vital role in ICT development. Due to its solid IT policies, Singapore boasts of a strong telecommunications infrastructure and e-government portal.

However, there are several weaknesses within the national IT landscape. E-business, specifically, at the B2C level, has several barriers that restrict is growth. It is important for Singapore to explore different strategies to overcome these hurdles so that e-business can flourish. Another problem lies within Singapore's ICT production. Since the demand for hard disk drives continues to fall, Singapore must develop a competitive advantage in the manufacturing of another hardware product. Finally, Singapore must continue to protect intellectual property from piracy and ilegal copyright violations.Without proper protection for intellectual property, there is no incentive for innovation. Hence Singapore risks jeapordizing its strong ICT policies if it does not work harder to stop piracy.
