The Hong Kong Cyberport Map

Overview

During the last few years, the free-trade Hong Kong has established IT incubators, IT R&D parks and a cyber port. The Hong Kong Cyberport and the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks will participate in the growth of the Hong Kong economy together with the city’s sprawling container ports, world-class convention centers and well-connected international airport.

Cyberport (38)

The Hong Kong Cyberport at Telegraph Bay will create a strategic cluster of leading IT companies and a critical mass of professional talents in Hong Kong. The cyber city is scheduled for completion in phases between early 2002 and 2004. Six major corporations, including IBM and Oracle, have signed on as tenants.

The Cyberport is a comprehensive development that will provide intelligent offices and other high-tech facilities for IT companies. The project receives the support of a $100 million venture fund and five local universities. The information infrastructure will connect different areas of the Cyberport campus and will link the campus with the rest of the world. A strategic cluster of over 100 IT and IT-related companies of varying sizes and at different stages of development will be built up at the Cyberport, starting from early 2002. These companies will specialize in the application of advanced IT to the development of services and multimedia content to support businesses and industries ranging from finance, through trading, advertising and entertainment, to communications. This project should help Hong Kong to overcome its comparative weakness in the software development sector in comparison with other IT sectors in the city. Consequently, Hong Kong will have a more robust IT industry.
