Information Technology in HUNGARY
IT Strengths & Weaknesses
![]()
It has been said that Hungary is a "stroller" in terms of becoming an information society. However, with their desire to become part of the EU within the next few years and their agreements through the WTO, Hungary is picking-up the pace and moving along. Hungary realizes the need for a solid telecommunications network. The government has issued statements pertaining to the future and what must be done in order to provide growth in the IT market.
Privatization has contributed to the growth of the IT market and by the turn of the millenium, Hungary will be a strong IT market. There are a number of important groups (government officials, foreign investors, educators) involved in the future of telecommunications, all of which are eager to turn Hungary into an information society.
Strengths
A society of interested individuals who are ready for a change
Government support
Foreign investment (among the investors are Israeli, French, Swiss, Dutch, British, Portuguese, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Irish companies)
Educated labor force
The beginnings of a developed telecommunications infrastructure
Member of WTO, applicant of EU
Privatization/deregulation of telecommunications sector and a future "open- market"
Weaknesses
Lack of IT professionals
Lack of Educational Institutes specializing in IT
Lack of production of manufactured goods within the country
Although Hungary is further behind in information technology development than some other European countries, they are moving along and their future looks promising.
