Information Policy
Although Cote d’Ivoire is a member of organizations that promote intellectual property such as the African Intellectual Property Organization (Organisation Africaine de la Propriete Intellectuelle – OAPI) and TRIPS (Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights) copyright laws are not really enforced when it comes to IT. This is probably due to the fact that the country has a quasi-nonexistent IT production industry and therefore the government has not felt the urgency to protect the work of its citizens in that field. Censorship has been applied to TV, radio, and printed newspapers occasionally, but not to the Internet. Most of the content available on the World Wide Web is accessible when using an Ivorian ISP. | |
