There is also a range of advanced services available for businesses such as Frame Relay or InterLAN (Interconnection of Large Area Networks).
Domestic Telecom Players: Incumbent Provider
Cote d’Ivoire Telecom is the national telecommunications operator and holds exclusive rights to basic services such as fixed phone lines. These rights to a monopoly expire in 2005. According to Hamed Bakayoko, the Ivorian Minister of NTIC, the license will not be renewed on an exclusive basis once it expires. Cote d’Ivoire Telecom is majority-owned by France Cable et Radio (51%), a division of France Telecom, with the remainder of the equity (49%) being held by government.
Domestic Telecom Players: Mobile Providers
Mobile telephone operations started in Cote d'Ivoire in October 1996. So far four operators have been granted licenses for GSM cellular services. These are Cora de Comstar, Loteny Télécom, Orange, and Aircom. Aircom never became operational and Comstar ceased its operations in July 2003.
