This
section will evaluate government services online and ditrubution of information
from Governemnt to Consumer and business
The
first annual survey of government websites conducted in 2001 by World Markets
Research Centre and Brown University, USA Mauritius is ranked at 29.4% for
e-government readiness for ICT and in online service Mauritius ranked 71st.
In 2001 government had about 90 publication and 31 databases. In comparison
egovernment in
Sweden
was ranked at 29.4%,
Israel
at 46.2,
Singapore
at 43.4% and US at 57.2% on the benchmark.

While
improve services,
Mauritius egovernment is leveraging itself between level two and three
where government is providing information seeking and downloading. Some
transaction offering on government site is present but no evidence of
procurement systems was found in my research. Government currently have
centralized portal for all government services and distribution of information.
In survey data of 2003
Mauritius ranked 7th for setting ICT as priority and success in
ICT is ranked as 23.
The electronic
submission of Income Tax and VAT returns is operational since May
2000.
The
Contributions Network Project implemented under the Ministry of Finance,
comprises the setting up of an electronic one-stop shop for all payments and
contributions of the private sector to Government. The 'Tradenet' project has
been operational since 1994 under the Ministry of Finance. This system deals
with the electronic authorization by customs for delivery of goods, the
electronic submission of sea manifest by shipping agents, electronic
declaration & processing of bills of entry and the transfer of
containers.
