There are number of e-government sites in Syria. Some are
outstanding, and provide a wealth of information in a well-designed format. A
lot are out of date and need to be updated. A few are simply dead links.
Of the well maintained and designed websites in Syria there is the the ministry of tourism website21 that provides almost a complete information about Syria general information, art & heritage, tourist information, tourist sites, festivals and maps about Syria. This websites available in three languages Arabic, English and French. |

A visitor to the Syrian Embassy in the united state website25 can download and print out all kind of applications and instructions needed to the Syrian people who lives abroad. Another website that provides a great amount of information for the investors would be the Syrian Chambers of Commerce website.22 This website provide a large amount of information about the Syria economy, investment laws and trade regulation. Since all the news agencies are controlled by the government in Syria, we can count their websites as a governmental websites. Actually, these websites are from the few governmental websites that are updated on a daily basis. |

I have experienced a very interesting experience with one of what should be the most advanced Syrian website, the Syrian Computer Society website.23 First of all the link to the English language version does not work. And on the the Syrian Computer Society Minbar website,24 (this is an Arabic website) has a wrong link to its mother website, the Syrian Computer Society website. I think if these kind of mistakes happen on the Syrian Computer Society website, which is sponsoring the internet diffusing in Syria, that is nothing but an indicator of how many dead or outdated links are on the Syrian websites. The Syrian government has a national ID programs. First they have what they call the "Family Notebook" in which they keep track of each person in each family information. Also every citizen when they reach 14 years old must apply to get a special ID which he/she will have to present whenever they conduct any transaction or communication with the government. |
