Computer and Telecommunication Hardware

Consultation with the Wold Bank authority indicated that at this time Iran does not export any hardware. However, discussions are underway for trade with countries in Eastern Europe as well as the countries of the Former Soviet Union. Establishing communication links with religious, scientific and cultural centers is among the objectives set under the Second Five Year Development Plan (SFYDP). In this context, improvement in the production process and quality of the products will bring Iran a step closer to becoming a competitive player in the global market.

Iran Electronic Production Facility in Shiraz is the main producer of electronic components such as electronic chips (IC) , smart cards and telephone cards.

The Iranian Telecommunication Cable Company (Martyr Quandi) in the city of Yazd is the top producer of optic cables in Asia. 17

Software and Services

Iran has started producing specialized customized software for export to several East European as well as few neighboring countries. Zarnegar Software which is produced by SENA company has sales agents outside of Iran. Most of the products are word processing software in Farsi-Latin alphabets.

Sudan has expressed interest in receiving assistance from Iran in setting two direct telecommunication channels between the two countries as well as production of telecommunication equipment. Iran is able to provide cable, switch, microwave and optic fiber systems. 18

Iran is taking part in telecom restoration of Afghanistan and Slovenia and has been asked to complete the Silk Road Communication Plan for Turkmenistan (65 Km of the optic fiber cable system and 400 Km of microwave network) and Uzbekistan .19,20,21

In addition, Russia expressed interest in purchasing switching system, digital centers, optical fibers and transportation system of up to 32 megabits' capacities from Iran.22
