India is the 8th largest telecommunications market in the world.(14) There are 1,080,264,388 people in the population and it is constantly growing.(1) The need to serve these people is ever increasing. Due to the low literacy rates and a large uneducated population most of India has not even begun to take advantage of ICT. There is a large population in wait.
India will be raising it's IT spending to 2-3% of GDP to promote ICT development.(22) Estimates put ICT spending at 7.5% by 2008. (23)
