Internal Sources of Financing

At this time, there are very few to no sources of financing from the Guatemalan Government. Most resources are being used to develop infrastructure and aquiring basic needs.

External Sources of Financing

There is considerable interest in the development of Guatemala from numerous outside countries. These include the USA, Canada, Spain, United Kingdom, Japan, and France. At this time, most of this funding goes to private foundations with the intention of development of infrastructure, basic needs, and supporting the Peace process and promotion of the equality of indigenous peoples. At this time there is little concentrated effort to develop IT infrastructure in Guatemala.

US Department Of Commerce is working on an automated early warning systems for weather in Guatemala, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. This type of system will reduce the risk of doing business in these countries as external investors can better monitor the conditions.

Prospects for future investment: (2)

Of the top nine prospects for investment in Guatemala, two are in the IT field, computer periphials and computer related services. To date, these are only prospects for the future.
