Comparison between City and Rural
Computer diffusion Shanghai >
45%, Rural < 1%
Internet User in Rural < 1%,
Beijing > 20% Shanghai+Guangzhou >30%
population in Rural > 60%
At present, the Internet is confined to large cities. Internet diffusion
in cities is far from saturated; high levels of pervasiveness will require
service to rural, which raises issues of public infrastructure, education
and affordability.
IT Clusters
Wuhan: Optics cluster
Wuhan, a metropolitan city of more than 7 million people in central
China, approximately 400 miles west of the coastal city of Shanghai, is
thriving as an optoelectronics and information industry center, Wuhan's East
Lake High Technology Development Zone (ELD) has established its priority to
be the largest optoelectronic and information technology center in China.
OVC's goals include achievement of the highest level of technology, largest
size, and fastest information transmission speeds with the PRC.
Shanghai: Information Technology Industry
Shanghai, China's leading industrial and commercial city has made effort
to turn itself into an international information center. Over the past few
years, the city has turned out integrated circuits, computers, mobile
telecommunications facilities and a series of other profitable information
technology products. Today, Shanghai produces one-fifth of China's
integrated circuits, one-third of telecommunications equipment, and 30
percent of IC cards, according to available latest statistics.
Beijing: Software
Beijing overwhelmingly leads all other Chinese cities in developing
Information Technology (IT). Meanwhile, more than one-third of Internet
Service Provider and Internet Content Provider in China ran their business
in Beijing. One-third of the nation's computer software engineers, as well
as half of the professionals in systematical integration and semi-conductors
is working in Beijing.
Following is a list of High Tech Parks in China, however industries
hosted in High Tech Parks are not limited to IT section.
