University Initiatives

Through our many programs, American University aims to strengthen our culture of respect and integrity, recognize the great work of our community members, and be a model for inclusion and innovation.

  • College Affordability
AU is committed to helping motivated students attain their educational goal. That's why we've developed tools and resources to help students and their families understand and manage their finances.
  • Remembering JFK at AU
Fifty years ago, JFK delivered his "A Strategy of Peace" speech at American University. We celebrate the anniversary of his achievement and the profound impact it had on AU and the wider world.
  • Responding to Hate
Hate has no place on our campus. American University continues to address the racist incident that occurred in our community last May as we establish an infrastructure to support, cultivate, and embrace diversity and foster inclusion.
  • Stand With AU
At AU, we believe any act of violence, bullying, hate, abuse, rape, or harassment is one too many. When our culture of integrity, respect, and support is threatened, we do not stand by passively. We stand together and help.
  • Tobacco Free
Being a tobacco- and smoke-free campus is one way AU is committed to improve the health and well-being of our community.
  • We Know Success
Did you know that 92% of AU grads are working, in grad school, or both? Find out where AU grads land and discover where an AU degree can take you.
  • Wonk of the Year
Each year, we recognize a well-known individual who embodies a wonk - someone who uses their knowledge and influence to create meaningful change in the world.
