Kogod Network

Students Gain Real-World Experience Through Mock Interviews

By Laura Herring

More than 30 interviewers, more than half of whom were Kogod alumni, interviewed 105 students throughout the afternoon.

Nearly every available space in the Kogod School of Business was overrun by students, alumni and industry volunteers who participated in mock interviews as part of the third-annual Kogod Network event.

"Kogod has such a strong network with our alumni and that's great for our students," said Wim Taylor, associate director of employer relations.

In addition to going through the steps of a traditional job interview, each 45-minute session included a review of the students' strengths and areas for improvement.

"The chance to talk about how the interview went was great," said Brian Smith, BSBA '13. "In the real world you don't get that chance to hear what you did well and what you need to work on…you either get the job or you don't, and I really appreciate the feedback I got."

For interviewer and alumnus Ross Litkenhous, MBA '05, the mock interview reminded him of why he chose Kogod himself.

"Initiatives like this and the faculty are why I chose Kogod. Both really gave me, and now current students, practical experience for the real world."
