American University's Sovereign Wealth Fund Conference 2017

Date: October 11, 2017

Time: 7:30 a.m to 3:00 p.m.

Location: Abramson Founders Room, School of International Service, AU

What are the changing roles and rules of sovereign wealth funds in today's international economy?

Since the Third Sovereign Wealth Funds (SWFs) conference at American University in October 2016, the world has been subject to some drastic changes. There have been less than desirable oil prices for the oil producing countries, more intense regional conflict in areas in the Middle East (like Yemen, Syria and Iraq), and very noticeable budget deficits in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. These changes, coupled with the United Kingdom's decision to exit the European Union, have led to major changes in Sovereign Wealth Funds.

The fourth international conference will examine the changes impacting Sovereign Wealth Funds and address the following questions and issues:

  • Going forward, what are some of the trends in future investments?
  • Are there more preferred sectors that they might focus on?
  • What about the possible changes in the investment mandates?
  • What is the impact of the fast-moving geopolitical changes on investment decision-making?
