Chile & Argentina 2011

Santiago
Mendoza

January 7-14, 2012

Criss-cross the Andes this winter break and join us for an exploration of two of the most beautiful emerging economies in the world. The Fall 2011 International Dimensions in Management course will take you to both Santiago, Chile, and Mendoza, Argentina to observe the growth of both domestic and multinational firms in the region.

Abundant in natural resources, Chile is internationally recognized as one of the most stable, open, and competitive economies in Latin America. Its dramatic terrain, wedged between the Pacific Ocean and the Andes Mountain range, uniquely covers everything from the driest desert in the world to massive glacial fields.

Argentina is a land of stunning scenery, rich culture, incredible food… and resilience. Few economies have faced the high highs and low lows that Argentina has weathered. Plagued by hyperinflation, wild currency fluctuations, and dubious financial policies, Argentina is a fascinating economic case study as well as a gorgeous destination.

The course meets 6-7 times during the second module of the Fall 2011 semester (Tuesdays at 8:10 p.m.) to study the economies of Latin America in general and Chile and Argentina in more detail. Then, you'll travel to South America in January (before Spring classes begin) to visit domestic and multinational firms across manufacturing, service and financial sectors. You'll spend eight days immersed in meetings with senior managers, company tours, and interactive follow-up discussions, as well as the cultural and historical highlights of the region.
