Our IBUS-744: International Dimensions in Management course provides students the opportunity to experience the management practices and business environments in Kenyan organizations.
Students will participate in a half semester long pre departure class, followed by one week of travel to Nairobi, Kenya, during the winter break. The pre departure class will be held on Wednesday evenings from 8:10—10:40 p.m. on the following dates: November 5, 12, 13 and December 3.
The travel component of the program consists of a series of meetings with senior managers and company tours of both local and multinational companies and NGO's across various industry sectors, engaged in interactive follow-up discussions to analyze the state of economic development in the most powerful economy in East Africa. The course enables you to fuse classroom learning with actual techniques used to compete in the global marketplace.
The professor for this course, Tomasz Mroczkowski, has extensive international experience, and has taught IBUS 744 several times in Western and Central Europe, The Middle East, and Asia.
The Kogod School of Business is partnering with AU Abroad to offer this program, which will be based out of the AU Abroad program office in Nairobi. AU Abroad Kenya program staff are coordinating in-country logistics and will accompany the program in Kenya.
The program will begin at on the morning of Sunday, January 4 in the program hotel in Nairobi. Students are expected to arrive in Nairobi by this time (most flights arrive in Nairobi late at night, and hotel is included the night of January 3). Information on airport transfer will be provided to students before booking flights.
Those arriving early will be responsible for arranging their own airport transfer and additional nights in the hotel.
The program concludes after the closing dinner on Saturday, January 11.
Please note that students will be responsible for reserving and purchasing their own airfare to and from Nairobi, and may choose to arrive early for personal travel in the region.
The first three days of the program will be based in and around Nairobi, Kenya. Tentative visit sites in Nairobi include Nation Media, Vision 2030, Equity Bank, Mobius Motors, Safaricom, and the Parliament of Kenya.
The group will depart for Mount Kenya on Wednesday morning for visits in coffee, tea and organic farming. The group will stay for two nights in an Eco Camp within the Ol Pajeta Conservancy, home to East Africa's largest Black Rhino sanctuary and the only Chimpanzee sanctuary in Kenya.
The group will return directly to Nairobi from Mount Kenya on the afternoon of January 10.
Credit Hours and Eligibility
This program is a 2-credit fall course (IBUS-744-001) and standard AU tuition applies. A 3-credit section of the course is also available (IBUS-744-002).
Students are responsible for the following costs of the program:
Tuition: Costs for tuition are based on the number of credits, calculated per the tuition and fee schedule posted on the Student Accounts website.
Program Fee: The $2,250 program fee includes double occupancy room, ground transportation as part of the program, company site visits, and meals and cultural activities as outlined on the program itinerary. Due to possible exchange rate fluctuations, the final program cost may need to be adjusted and will be confirmed 30–60 days in advance of departure. This program fee is billed to your Student Account, minus a $300 non-refundable deposit which is paid to AU through the Kogod Office of Global Learning Programs.
Travel: Students are responsible for the reservation and payment of air travel to and from Kenya.
Passport & Visa: Students are solely responsible for obtaining a passport, visas, or other immigration documents required to enter and exit Kenya, including related fees. The Kogod Office of Global Learning Programs will support students with any required letters from AU. All US Citizens will require a visa for this visit to Kenya, and these visas can be purchased upon arrival in Nairobi for $50 USD. Non-US citizens should check the website of the Kenyan Embassy in D.C. for more information. International students should also be aware of transit visa requirements before purchasing flights that transit via a third country.
Incidentals: Expenses for shopping, personal activities, and meals and local transportation not included in the program itinerary are the student's responsibility.
Financial Aid: Students planning to use financial aid should consult with the Financial Aid office to determine coverage and eligibility.

Deliver items 2, 3, and 4 (along with a $300 non-refundable deposit) to the Kogod Office of Global Learning mailbox in KSB 106.
Once your deposit and paperwork have been received, you will be registered for either IBUS-744-001 (2 credits) or IBUS-744-002 (3 credits) based on your online registration form. You will not register yourself. Once registered, your student account will be charged for the balance of the program fee.
