Kogod Summer Institute FAQs

How old are program participants?

Participants of the Kogod Summer Institute (KSI) range from 16-18. Students entering their junior or senior year in high school are eligible to participate.


How do I apply?

To participate in the Kogod Summer Institute, complete the registration form located online in the Apply section or in the Summer 2016 registration form. Registration is accepted on a first come-first served basis, so register early.


How do I pay for the program?

A $300 non-refundable deposit must be paid by check or money order by May 1, 2016, and full program payment of $2,350 must be paid by check, money order, or credit card by July 11, 2016.

What does the cost cover?

The program fee covers all program costs, including housing, on-campus dining, and transportation to site visits.


What do the students when not in class or on a site visit?

After-hours activities are scheduled for each day of the program. Both on-campus and commuting students have the option to participate in the activities. How are the students supervised? Professional staff and faculty will be leading activates.

In addition, a Resident Assistant (RA) from American University lives in a room on the same floor with the students in their resident hall. Resident Assistants will also be assisting throughout the week with student activities and site visits.


How quickly do classes fill?

Please have your registration and payment sent in by July 11, 2016 to ensure a spot for your student in the program. We only have 60 spots available, 30 students in each track.


What if students are flying into D.C.?

Please contact Abby Moreau at at the time of registration to discuss student transportation. Resident Assistants are available to escort students to and from Washington Reagan National Airport on the check-in dates and check-out dates.

Students and the Resident Assistants will use the Washington Metro System to go to and from the Airport and American University. KSI must be notified two (2) weeks in advance of flight itineraries by contacting
