Boland's research highlighted by Chicago Tribune
Consumer research conducted by Assistant Professor Wendy Boland was discussed in a Chicago Tribune article about the unusual aspects of consumer behavior. Boland's research was used to describe the overwhelming tendency for people to choose a lower quality item - rather than the "runner-up" item - when their first choice option was unavailable. The phenomenon, called the "attribute carry-over effect," occurs up to 60 percent of the time when consumers are faced with making an alternate selection. View full article here (12/15/11)

Assistant Professor Caren Goldberg was interviewed by Forbes about how to spot a bad boss during an interview. A human resources expert, Goldberg provided some tips about red flags to look for before you commit to a new position. Among the tips: listen for indirect answers to legitimate concerns you may have. WUSA9 examines the politics of the payroll tax cut plans with Kautter
Managing Director of the Kogod Tax Center David Kautter was interviewed on WUSA9 regarding the two plans for payroll tax cut extension that faced the U.S. Senate. The payroll cuts will expire at the end of the year if a deal is not reached, and the pressure is on now that both plans have been rejected. "The Democratic proposal is much broader," Kautter stated in the interview. "Right now, normally, employers and employees would both pay six point two percent of wages to fund Social Security. What the Democrats are proposing is to reduce both the employer and the employee tax in half... Republicans would only continue the current two percent reduction for the employees." Kautter also discussed the sources of funding for the cuts for each plan, likely one of the largest subjects of debate for any plans that will be proposed in the future. View full clip here (12/01/11)
