A lucky few American University students graduate each year with not only a degree but also a lifetime partner. Some even return to campus to marry in Kay Chapel. And almost all invite their AU friends to the festivities, like Sarah Twomey-Mercurio, Kogod/BSBA '09, and Daniel Orr, SPA/BA '08 (pictured) -- who showed their Eagle pride with other alumni at their wedding.
Memorably, just this past May, Sam Miller, SOC-CAS/BA ’12, proposed to Sarah Cooper, SPA-CAS/BA ’12, on stage at graduation as she received her diploma. The YouTube video of the proposal went viral and appeared on the Today show and other local and national news.
We know there are as many as 2,500 more happy AU sweethearts, and we want to hear from you for our first-ever AU Sweethearts Social Media project. For three years, the Alumni Association has hosted an event on campus for AU couples, but this year we want to involve AU couples from across the country and around the world!
Tell us your stories and send us your photos. We will feature you and other AU couples in the next issue of Alumni Update and on our social media pages. You can fill out this form, tell your story (include a photo!) on our Facebook page, or share stories and photos on Twitter and Instagram using #AUSweethearts.
