AUCI Research

The mission of the research component of the AU Center for Innovation in the Capital is to:

Current research projects include the exploration of Entrepreneurial Ecosystems (Kauffman grant of $150,000; launched November 15, 2016 with Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn and over 180 members of the Tampa Bay business community) and the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor’s 2016 Social Entrepreneurship Report (launched in April 2016 together with co-author Niels Bosma of Utrecht University and Nobel Laureate Muhammed Yunus).


 Dr. Siri Terjesen, AUCI Research Director

The Center's research is led by Interim Center Director Dr. Siri Terjesen.Siri's research in entrepreneurship, corporate governance, and strategy has been published in leading journals ( e.g., Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, Journal of Operations Management, Journal of Business Ethics, Business Ethics Quarterly) and featured in the media ( e.g., Businessweek, Times, Daily Mail).

She is an Associate Editor of Academy of Management Learning & Education, Small Business Economics, and Industry & Innovation.

Siri is a co-author of the 2016 Global Entrepreneurship Monitor's Social Entrepreneurship report on the prevalence of social entrepreneurship in 53 countries around the world and concurrently the Project Director for the Global Entrepreneurship and Development Institute's Female Entrepreneurship Index. She is also an affiliated researcher with Catalyst (New York) and the Ratio Institute (Stockholm) and Membership Chair of the Academy of Management's Entrepreneurship division. She has received numerous teaching awards from both student organizations and national associations.

The purpose of the study is two-fold. First, the team sought to expand the limited current theory in entrepreneurial ecosystems. Second, the project sought to better understand the specific state of the ecosystem in Tampa Bay and create a baseline for future research.

Independent Research Study in Entrepreneurship

Dr. Siri Terjesen and other AUCI faculty supervise undergraduate and graduate students’ research in entrepreneurship. In Spring 2017, students are undertaking research projects on corporate governance, immigrant entrepreneur “start-up visas”, new technology ventures in digital banking, and the relationship between student debt and economic choices.
