This trip is open to all American University students interested in pursuing a career in finance in New York and will be capped at 20 participants. Preference will be given to those students who exhibit a clear interest in careers related to finance and who have not previously attended.

Registration Requirements:

  • Resume (Resume must be reviewed and approved by a KCCD career advisor PRIOR to applying specifically for the purposes of the trip so that all resumes submitted in the NYC Finance & Real Estate trip resume book are of superior quality. Please indicate to your KCCD advisor that the review is specifically for the NYC Finance Trip.)
  • Unofficial copy of transcript and minimum GPA of 3.00 (MS students who have not yet earned an AU GPA can submit a transcript from their undergraduate institution.)
  • An essay of 300 words or less on why you would like to attend the trip, and your expectations for how it will impact your career development.

To apply, students will need to log onto CareerSource or AU CareerWeb and search for job posting ID#129045 (listed as "NYC Finance Trip Participant). You must upload electronic copies of all registration documents listed above.

Beginning Friday, September 1 you may schedule an appointment with a KCCD advisor in order to have you resume reviewed. This will enable you to get your resume reviewed and approved for application purposes and inclusion in the resume book. (If you are a major outside of Kogod, please call our front desk at 202-885-1908 to make your appointment and indicate that your appointment is for the NYC Finance Trip).

Applications will be accepted through CareerSource/AU CareerWeb beginning Monday, September 11, 2017 at 12:01a.m. and no later than Wednesday, September 20, 2017 11:59p.m.

Students will first be screened to ensure the aforementioned requirements are met and that students are in good academic standing. Slots will then be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis based on the application time. KCCD will divide slots among undergraduate and graduate participants.

The first 20 students who have met the application criteria will be notified by email on Monday, September 25.

Those students who are not one of the first 20 to apply will be added to a wait-list and are strongly encouraged to attend the pre-trip workshops in the event a spot becomes available.

All students must attend the pre-trip workshops in order to be able to attend the event.

If you are selected and know you are not able to attend, please send an email to matanin@american.edu ASAP so that a student on the wait-list can be added to the attendee list.

Registration Cost: $100.00
This fee will cover Wednesday evening's event/networking reception, Thursday evening's event/networking reception and all material for the pre-trip boot camp.

This fee is non-refundable and must be submitted to the front desk at the KCCD by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4. Checks should be made payable to American University.

Students who do not pay the fee by the deadline may be replaced by students from the wait-list.

All trip attendees are required to attend both sessions of the Finance Boot Camp. These events are open to any other students interested in learning more about the finance and real estate industries as well as students on the wait-list.

Session 1: Introduction to Finance Careers and Tools for Success
Date and Time To Be Determined, location to be announced. Facilitated by a finance faculty member. Pizza lunch will be provided.

Session 2: Leveraging the NYC Finance Trip: Tips for a Successful Networking Experience
Offered twice to accommodate students' class/event schedules. Snacks will be provided. Expectations, waiver forms and how to maximize the trip will all be discussed.

The University will be closed on Friday, October 14 for Fall Break. However, students with classes on Thursday should discuss the trip with their professors prior to registration. This trip does not take the place of a student's academic classroom requirements and students should seek prior approval from their faculty if class time will be missed.

Waiver
Students who register for the trip will be required to sign a waiver form during the pre-trip Boot Camp.

Attendance
Students are expected and required to attend ALL event-related activities including the 2 Boot Camp Sessions, the evening Event/Networking Reception and all site visits. In addition, students must arrive 20 minutes early to each activity in NYC in order to check-in with a designated Kogod staff member.

Students who do not arrive 20 minutes prior to the official event start time will be considered late. Failure to abide by these policies will result in immediate dismissal from additional trip activities and will require further follow-up with the Director of KCCD upon return to campus.

Attire
Students are required to wear formal business attire (i.e. a suit) to all trip-related events, except the Boot Camp Sessions which are business casual.

Travel and Accommodations
Students are responsible for securing their own travel to and from NYC, including overnight stay Thursday evening. This cost is not included in the $100 trip registration fee. Students will have the opportunity to connect with other trip attendees and carpooling/room sharing is highly encouraged.



Directions to Campus

Hourly parking is available in the garage under the Katzen Art Center. Campus can be reached by DC Metro rail and bus, or by using the AU Shuttle Bus.




Hotel accommodations and travel stipends will be available to those traveling from outside the DC metropolitan area.
