"Saving Dying Languages: Why It Matters" (Updated 2/18/13)
noon – 1:30 pm, Thursday, February 21 (2013), Kay Lounge A
Professor Harrison, an AU alum, will discuss his work and outline what can be done to counter the amazing reality that every two weeks, one of the world's 7,000 languages disappears--and with it the invaluable knowledge of a people. He will tell why inaction is unthinkable given the incalculable costs to humanity and knowledge if languages face extinction. No matter where your interests lie--in the social sciences, the arts and humanities, the natural sciences, and beyond--you'll be fascinated by what Professor Harrison will share.
