EURAXESS Science Slam (Updated 8/7/13)
5:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Tuesday, September 24 (2013), Abramson Family Recital Hall
You may have heard of EURAXESS, the European initiative aiming at facilitating the mobility of researchers worldwide regardeless of their field of research. EURAXESS Links North America, the branch of EURAXESS based in Washington DC, promotes Europe as an attractive and open place for researchers and innovators. It networks not only European researchers working in North America but also American and Canadian researchers/innovators with the potential of moving to Europe or to a non-European destination where EURAXESS Links operates (Japan, China, ...).
For instance our web portal has currently 8000 registered organisations. About 25,000 researchers/engineers have posted their CV in this portal and every year about 40,000 job offers are published over the portal. EURAXESS also provides personalised assistance in Europe for researchers/innnovators/entrepreneurs relocation through about 200 national
Service Centers spread out all over Europe.
As part of our promotion activities in the USA we are planning to organise next September a SCIENCE SLAM EVENT in the Washington DC area. A Science Slam is scientific talk where scientists present their own scientific research work in a given time frame - usually 10 minutes or less - in front of a mixed audience. The focus lies on teaching current science to a diverse audience in an entertaining way. The presentation is judged by the audience. The competition would be open to researchers based in North America regardless of their nationality or field of research. The winner of the competition will be granted with a free round trip ticket to Brussels, Belgium, to participate in the European Union's funded Conference 'EURAXESS Voice of the Researchers' next 21-22 November 2013.
