With the exception of the Home Use Collection described below, the majority of the DVDs, videotapes, videodiscs, and audiotapes in the Media Services collection are primarily used to support curriculum needs. Therefore only AU faculty and their proxies are permitted to check these materials out of the library. Students and other users may borrow any of these materials for use within the Media Services department.
Fines for overdue items are charged for Media Services materials, just as they are for other library materials. Fines on daily checkouts are $1.20 per day; fines on hourly checkouts are $0.50 per hour.
Home Use Collection:
Approximately 7,000 of the feature films in the collection have been cataloged for home use and may be circulated to AU students and staff on a three day loan. The primary mission of Media Services is to support teaching faculty and their course development, so some feature film titles acquired specifically for class use are not designated for home use. Titles reserved at any time during the semester for class use and other high use items will not be circulated for home use; these items may only be viewed in Media Services.
The Home Use loan period is three days. Overdue fines are $1.20 per day. Home Use items may not be renewed, but users can return them to Media Services and check them out immediately as long as they are not needed for class use.
Finding Home Use Titles:
Home Use on Pinterest:
Media Services maintains a Pinterest page for browsing titles in our collection. Peruse some of our favorite films with ease. Titles, AU call numbers, and links to our catalog are under every title. The page has over 50 boards on themes like staff favorites, animation, AFI top 100, French language films and many more. In all, nearly 6,000 films are pinned.
Follow your favorite boards and get updates when new titles are added.
