Blackboard 9 Login and Account Creation Information for AU Faculty and Consortium Students
Blackboard is American University's premiere course management system that offers extensive functionality for distance learning, online teaching, and as an effective supplement to any and all AU Courses.
How do consortium students get access to AU Blackboard Courses?
Consortium students, upon registering for an AU course are given an AU ID number. They must use this ID number to create an online user account. Once they've done this, they will be automatically placed in the Blackboard course for the course they registered for.
How do Consortium Students Create an AU Username and Password?
On the left side of the page, there will be a link; "New students, faculty, and staff: CREATE YOUR ACCOUNT." Click it.
Click the "I am a student" link
Follow the directions; you will be assigned a user name and password.
What should a student do if they were not assigned in AU ID number?
First, carefully recheck your registration materials given to you by your home university and American, as all consortium students are assigned an AU ID number. If, after checking your materials, you still cannot find that information, contact the American University Office of the Registrar at 202-885-2200 or email@example.com.
Where should a student go to log into Blackboard and access their course materials?
After creating your AU username and password, you can log-in to Blackboard by going to http://blackboard-test.american.edu. The links to course websites for the courses your registered will appear on the right side of the screen after you've logged in.
Will consortium students automatically be added to my Blackboard course?
The registrar should automatically add a consortium student to your course. If you do not see a consortium student in your course's enrollments and cannot add them, it is likely that they have yet to create their AU username and password or that there's a problem with their account. If the former is the case, they will need to create their account on http://my.american.edu/ If the latter is the case, they will need to contact the registrar.
