YouTube
YouTube is a site that helps you search and post videos. YouTube is so popular that many mainstream news media providers have uploaded archived footage and news broadcasts to YouTube. Blackboard 9 allows you to search, link and play these videos right in your site.
Add a YouTube Video
- Enter a Content Area (i.e. External Links or Course Documents) and click Build Content
- Under Mashups click YouTube Video
- Type a description of the clip you would like to search for (i.e. Moon Landing) and click Go
- Scroll through the list of videos that YouTube displays and click Preview to watch the video, or Select to add the YouTube video to the Content Area.
- On the next page you'll have the option to add a description of your video. When you are done editing it, click Submit.
Flickr
Flickr is a website that allows users to upload and share photos from all over the world on a variety of topics. You can use Blackboard to embed pictures from Flickr into your content areas to help illustrate topics or articles.
Add a Flickr Photo
- Enter a Content Area (i.e. External Links or Course Documents) and click Build Content
- Under Mashups click Flickr Photo
- Type a description of the photo you would like to search for (i.e. Berlin Wall) and click Go
- Scroll through the photos that Flickr displays and click Select to add the photo to the Content Area.
- On the next page you'll have the option to add a description of your photo. When you are done editing it, click Submit.
SlideShare
SlideShare is a website that allows users to upload PowerPoint and Keynote programs along with Word and PDF documents and share them as a link.
Add a SlideShare Presentation
Before you add your presentation to Blackboard, you need to first upload your PowerPoint or Keynote presentation to SlideShare.
- At www.slideshare.net signup for an account.
- Next, click the Upload button at the top of the page.
- Click Browse and select files and find where your presentation is located on your computer.
- SlideShare will then upload and convert your presentation, you can name and categorize your presentation while it processes, then click Save. Note: SlideShare presentations will not have any animations or sound included.
- Go to a content area and hover over Build Content then under Mashups click SlideShare presentation.
- On the next page under Search Type select Specific Presentation (URL).
- Go back to SlideShare and copy the URL for your presentation (e.g. http://www.slideshare.net/NixonEE/clicking-in)
- Next, paste the URL of your presentation into the search box and click Go.
- When your presentation appears in the search window, click Select under the preview window, then Submit on the next page.
RSS Feeds
RSS Feeds are streams of article headlines from news sources, websites and blogs that are condensed into lists of links to the full text of the articles. You can get RSS Feeds from lots of places on the internet, just look for the little orange RSS icon on your favorite media site.
