Follow the steps below to download, install and authorize the ArcGIS Desktop Advanced software on your AU-owned workstation. If you would prefer to have the software installed by a technician, please submit a request.

Download the ArcGIS installer and double-click it to launch.
Click OK to extract the installer files.
Click Close and the installer will launch the setup program.
Accept the license agreement and click the Next button.
Choose Complete Install and click Next.
Click Next to accept the default installation destination.
Click Next to allow the Python framework to install alongside ArcGIS (this is required for Geoprocessing tools).
Click Next and the installation will begin. This could take up to 15 minutes to complete.
When finished, the ArcGIS Administrator Wizard will launch. Under Select a Product --> ArcGIS Desktop select Advanced (ArcInfo) Concurrent Use. Under Define a License Manager select Define a License Manager later from the ArcGIS Administrator and click OK.
Before you can receive a license for ArcGIS you need to send your computer name to (email) and you will be added to the list of authorized users. To find your computer name, do one of the following:
Right-click on the Computer icon on the desktop and select Properties. The computer name is listed under Computer name, domain and workgroup settings.
Click Start --> Run (or Windows Key + R), enter cmd and click OK to bring up the command prompt. Type hostname and hit the Enter key and you will see your computer name listed in the window.
Once you receive an email notification that you have been authorized to use the ArcGIS license server, launch the ArcGIS Administrator by clicking Start --> ArcGIS --> ArcGIS Administrator.
Click on Desktop in the left-hand menu and then click the Change button.
Enter arcgis.american.edu in the box and click the OK button.
Back in the ArcGIS Administrator, click the OK button to save the settings.
Launch ArcMap by clicking Start --> ArcGIS --> ArcMap to ensure that the license was authorized correctly. If you don't see any error messages you have sucessfully installed the ArcGIS Desktop Advanced Suite.
