Two publications designed to promote American University to prospective students won top distinction at the Admissions Advertising Awards—the largest educational advertising competition in the country.
American University received “Best of Show” for its 2008 “Admit Package,” the packet sent to each undergraduate student accepted to the university. Out of more than 1,000 schools, AU was one of only 16 to earn the distinction.
The university also earned a Gold Award for “For Graduates Only,” a magazine advertisement designed to attract prospective graduate and professional students. Gold Awards in other categories were granted to 238 other schools.
“Our prospective students and families have given us much positive feedback about our pieces, especially our view book,” said James Raby, associate director of enrollment marketing at AU, who worked with firm Creative Communication Associates to create the winning materials. Creative Communication Associates provides marketing and communications for institutions of higher learning.
“Through materials like the view book, students and their families see that is that AU is modern, our campus is lively and dynamic, and there is a strong connection with Washington, D.C.,” said Sharon Alston, interim executive director for enrollment.
More than 2,000 individual entries from colleges, universities, and secondary schools from all 50 states and several foreign countries were evaluated for this year’s awards. Judges included admissions marketing professionals, advertising creative directors, and the editorial board of Admissions Marketing Report. The magazine, the nation’s leading marketing publication for higher education, holds the awards annually.
