Death of Professor Sue Marcum

The following text is a memo sent to the Campus Community from Scott A. Bass, Provost and Richard M. Durand, Dean of the Kogod School of Business regarding the death of American University Profesor Sue Marcum.

It is with great sadness that we share with you the passing of Professor Sue Marcum.

Professor Marcum was a beloved member of the Kogod community and her sudden death is a tremendous loss to her students and colleagues.

A member of the Kogod Accounting faculty, she was a dynamic and engaging teacher. A member of the Kogod faculty since 1999, she served as director of the MS in Accounting program and was an alumna of the BS in Business Administration and MS in Taxation programs.

The Montgomery County Police Department is treating Professor Marcum’s death as "suspicious" and are conducting an ongoing investigation.

As a community, we mourn Professor Marcum’s death and extend our deepest sympathies to her family, friends, students, colleagues, and alumni. Information about a memorial service will be shared as it becomes available.
