#SPA80for80: Lauren E. Beck, BA/SPA ’94

Lauren Beck

After a visit to Washington, DC at the age of 13, Lauren Beck knew that she wanted to attend college in the nation’s capital. She chose AU for the mix of political science expertise and the college campus experience.

Two decades later, Beck is still in DC. She serves as senior director of government relations, representing Kellogg Company to the U.S. Congress with a focus on nutrition and supply chain policy. She is also responsible for advancing and communicating Kellogg’s sustainability work to the U.S. government. Prior to joining Kellogg’s, Beck spent 17 years at Unilever, representing the organization in government relations, public affairs, sustainability and partnerships.

Beck is a member of Women in Government Relations, where she served as president from 2006-2008 and received the association’s Award of Excellence in 2009. Beck also received numerous recognitions while at Unilever, including a Global Communications award for launching the company’s first U.S.-wide food drive and a nomination for Unilever’s Women are Heroes award.

Early in her career, Beck interned for the National Women’s Political Caucus, U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg and held various internships assisting members of Congress with fundraising.

#MySPAHistory

"The School of Public Affairs enabled me to pursue a number of different internships throughout my academic experience. Ultimately, this helped set my career path. I am forever grateful to my parents for their support and to AU and SPA for the tremendous faculty, course work and internship opportunities."
