American University’s Center for Environmental Policy will launch the William K. Reilly Fund for Environmental Governance and Leadership, and present the inaugural Reilly Awards for Environmental Leadership, and the Reilly Scholarship at American University on April 23. The Earth Week trifecta is made possible by William K. Reilly, noted for his distinguished environmental, public service and finance career. American University has instituted the fund to complement its dedication to sustainability through the Center for Environmental Policy and other academic programs, its commitment to carbon neutrality by 2020 and the substantial efforts it has already taken to reduce its carbon footprint.

The fund is designed to improve environmental governance in the United States. As environmental challenges become more complex, the country urgently needs platforms by engaging business, government, nonprofits, and the academic community in constructive dialogue and in devising new ways of resolving environmental issues. The fund seeks to improve the institutions and means by which decisions are made that protect the environment and natural resources and enhance their relationships to the nation’s economic health and social well-being.

Reilly will give a keynote address “Leadership in a Polarized Era” at the event.
