Commencement Address by Robert P. Kogod
Kogod School of Business and the School of Public Affairs
Kogod is a 1962 alumnus of American University. He and his wife are generous philanthropists in the greater Washington, D.C. area. Kogod is known for spearheading the development of Crystal City in northern Virginia, and as benefactor of American University's Kogod School of Business.

Commencement Address by J. Carter Brown
College of Arts and Sciences
Brown served as Director of the National Gallery of Art. While living with his family in Washington, the young J. Carter Brown fell in love with the National Gallery of Art and first conceived of a career that would allow him to pursue his love for all the arts and to share them with a larger public. After retiring from the National Gallery in 1992, he continued his crusade to bring the splendors of art to the mass public.

Commencement Address by William Raspberry
School of Communication and School of International Service
Raspberry is the Pulitzer Prize-winning syndicated urban affairs columnist at The Washington Post. After earning a B.S. in history at the University of Indianapolis in 1958, Raspberry served as a public information officer with the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962, before joining the staff of the Washington Post as a teletypist. Raspberry quickly rose in the ranks of the paper, becoming a columnist in 1966. Raspberry was first nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in 1982, and won the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary in 1994.

Commencement Address by Mark L. Schneider
Washington College of Law
Schneider was the second returned Volunteer (El Salvador, 1966–68) to head the Peace Corps. He launched an initiative to increase Volunteers' participation in helping prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS in Africa, and also sought Volunteers to work on information technology projects to enhance development of overseas communities.

Commencement Speech by Daniel Schorr
Schorr's career of more than six decades has earned him many awards for journalistic excellence, including three Emmys, and decorations from European heads of state. He has also been honored by civil liberties groups and professional organizations for his defense of the First Amendment.
