Help AU Careers Thrive in 2005

Your next AU alum employee or student intern may be just one meeting away. As you reflect on another positive year nearly behind you and ponder ways to make 2005 better than ever, remember the various ways of getting more involved - including the AU CareerWeb, job and internship fairs, school-specific networking receptions, and the Online Community. After all, AU alumni are often instrumental in helping fellow alumni and current students reach their career goals.

AU’s CareerWeb is the Career Center’s new online recruiting system. Launched in summer 2004, CareerWeb is a comprehensive service allowing employers to post all job and internship positions at no charge, request on-campus interview dates, access student resumes, register for AU’s job and internship fairs, and request information sessions. For more information, visit: http://www.american.edu/careercenter. Choose “Create a New Account” in the Employer section and fill out the registration form. Within one business day, you’ll receive a “Welcome” e-mail, which will allow you to complete your account.

AU’s Job and Internship Fairs are also a vital way to meet and hire AU students and alumni from every field and area of study. Each October and March, the Career Center holds a Job and Internship Fair in AU’s Bender Arena. This is a terrific opportunity to recruit for full- and part-time employees as well as interns. The fairs attract graduate and undergraduate students from all five colleges at AU. The Career Center can also provide you with interviewing space on campus if you would like to interview candidates from the fair.

Networking receptions have also become events throughout the school year in the Kogod School of Business, the School of International Service, the School of Communication, and the School of Public Affairs. You may visit AU for any Networking Reception, or contact the Career Center to plan one for your organization or business. You are encouraged to invite a recruiter from your organization/business to join you. You may RSVP online to all networking events at: http://www.american.edu/careercenter.

The Online Community allows alumni and students access to an online searchable database of AU alumni throughout the world where they can share their knowledge and experience. To register, visit: http://www.american.edu/alumni, choose “Online Community” (OLC) and follow the easy, step-by-step registration instructions. You can also volunteer through the OLC to serve on AU's Career Network and offer informal advice to current students and fellow alumni indicating that you are interested in recruiting at a job/internship fair. You may also indicate that you have internship/summer jobs to offer. You must complete the "Professional" section of your directory to update your employment information and complete the "Networking" section to indicate how you would like to participate.
