AU Alumni Update

January 2004

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR ALUMNI ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT
Don Knapp

My 12-year-old daughter has already decided she wants to go to American University. It could be because I’ve dressed her in Eagle paraphernalia since she was born, but I hope it’s because she knows AU is an amazing school with so much to offer its students.

That’s one reason I give back to American – in both time and financial support. It’s hard to remember your alma mater when you’re involved with the daily business of life. We get so involved paying off mortgages, student loans, and car payments, that we tend to forget how rewarding it feels to get out to alumni events and give back. But remember: While we were attending AU, generous alumni and friends supported our education – by mentoring, hosting student-send-offs, and making financial gifts to the university. Now, it’s our turn to support current and future students.

I hope you’ll join me in helping AU reach its alumni participation goal of 19 percent by April 30, 2004. Right now, we’re almost two-thirds of the way to our goal: We need 5,376 more alumni to make a gift. One day when your kid wants to be an Eagle, you’ll be proud to know that fellow alumni didn’t forget the institution that gave you so much.

Sincerely,

Don Knapp ’81, ’83, ’87
AU Alumni Association President

P.S. The amount you give isn’t important; the fact you care enough to give is. For the last three years, AU has set increasingly higher goals and reached them! Please help AU continue its upward trend by making a gift today.
