SIS Alumni for Dinner and Discussion with Mark Shriver Public servant Mark Kennedy Shriver will speak about his work as vice president of Save the Children with a small group of AU Alumni on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at 6:30 p.m. At Save the Children, Shriver oversees programs in more than 200 primarily isolated rural communities in 18 states, where child poverty is heavily concentrated, including Central Appalachia, the Deep South, the Rio Grande border, the Southwest, the Central Valley of California, and American Indian Reservations in the Northern Plains. Before joining Save the Children, Shriver served two, four-year terms as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates, representing the 15th legislative district. He ran for a seat in Maryland’s 8th Congressional district in 2002 but was defeated by Chris Van Hollen. Shriver served as Maryland’s first-ever chair of the Joint Committee on Children, Youth and Families. He also founded and served as executive director of the innovative Maryland-based Choice program, which serves at-risk youth through intensive community-based counseling and job training services. Shriver, 39, is one of five children of Eunice Kennedy, who founded the Special Olympics, and Sargent Shriver, first head of the Peace Corps. This event is part of an ongoing series of special dinners the SIS Alumni Chapter conducts with prominent policy makers and leaders. The event will be held on the AU campus in Mary Graydon Center, room 4. Space is limited to 20, so be sure to RSVP soon if you plan to attend. To
