Celebrates American Politics in Action at the Democratic National Convention
Boston
will be buzzing this summer as the Democratic National Convention arrives
on Monday, July 26. Encompassing the entire city, the convention will
run for four nights and bring in more than 35,000 visitors to the Boston
area.
American
University has not missed this unique opportunity to gather its alumni
and friends together for a special celebration. On Tuesday, July 27, at
the Radisson Cambridge in downtown Boston, Mitch Muroff, SPA/BA
‘73, the owner of the Radisson Cambridge, graciously donated
space for the event.
The
highlight of the evening will be a 30-minute panel discussion with honored
guests Jim Thurber, SPA professor, Mark Mellman, Democratic pollster,
and Alisyn Camerota, SOC/BA ’88, FOX news correspondent.
School of Public Affairs Dean William LeoGrande and School of Communication
Dean Larry Kirkman will also be in attendance to welcome guests.
“We
have a presence at the political conventions because our alumni are actively
involved - as elected officials, reporters, pollsters, delegates, and
executives. They are living out the AU ideal of turning ideas into action
and action into service,” says Jenine Rabin, director of development
for the School of Public Affairs.
American
University will also host a reception at the Steuben Glass flagship store,
of which AU parent Marie McKee is president and CEO, in New York on Tuesday,
August 31 to celebrate the Republican National Convention.
To
register for either reception, please call Mary Skinner at 800-270-ALUM,
ext. 5925. You may also register on-line for the Boston
and New
York receptions.
The
School of Public Affairs, the School of Communication, and the Boston
Alumni Chapter would like to thank all the alumni participating in the
host committees.
