Whose seat will you sit in the next time you see a show at the new Harold and Sylvia Greenberg Theatre? It could be your own. For a limited time, patrons of the arts have the unique opportunity to have their name, or the name of someone they love, engraved on a plaque and displayed on a seat in the Greenberg Theatre at 4200 Wisconsin Avenue. Already, most seats in the front half of the new 300-seat theatre have been purchased, and their “seat plaques” engraved for theatre-goers to see. The Greenbergs and Katzens have named their seats, President and Mrs. Ladner have theirs, a friend named one in honor of Department of Performing Arts professor Caleen Sinette Jennings, and even Arch Campbell, long-time entertainment reporter for NBC4, has a nice aisle seat. There's no shortage of creativity among seat sponsors, either. Julie Weber, executive director of AU’s Housing & Dining programs, donated the naming rights to her seat to help raise funds for the 2004 Senior Class (and rising junior Matthew Klaus inscribed it in honor of his dad). The Young Alumni Chapter raised funds through a silent auction in order to add "A Young Alum Sat Here" on one seat. There’s even a group of roommates from the 1970s, spearheaded by Mechele Flaum '72, who have reserved a row of seats to ensure they’ll be together forever. Other crafty sayings include:
For a donation of $1,000, you too can "take a seat" in the Greenberg Theatre. All seat sales benefit the theatre, and you can pay for your gift over as much as three years. For
