March 2004 There’s
no question about it: Spring has arrived in D.C.
Remember
the days of that first spring afternoon when you wore shorts
and no coat even though it wasn’t really quite warm
enough to do so? Chances are, you had a sore throat a few
days later, but it didn’t matter. So what if you shivered
a little as you lay on the quad with your friends, enjoying
spring’s first hint of the warmth to come? Last week,
the students were out in full force in their T-shirts, flip-flops,
and smiles, splayed across the quad and the front steps of
Mary Graydon and Ward as they soaked in the sun.
The
thing about spring is it signals change. Here on campus, perhaps
the most visible change is the new Katzen Arts Center taking
shape across Ward Circle before our eyes – cranes moving,
walls forming. And the AU grounds crew is busy planting pansies,
mulching, and planning for Campus Beautification Day. But
many changes are taking place that are less visible, too.
Last
week, AU proudly announced the arrival of a founding director
of the Art Museum at the Katzen Arts Center. The A new
AU capital campaign continues to make progress, and the Alumni
Programs staff is planning “tour dates” for President
Ladner to visit cities across the country to talk about the
plans for AU’s future. The alumni board is looking for
new leaders. And the students… they’re making
summer plans, of course.
Here’s
hoping your garden grows tall and bright, and that you’re
planning at least one summer adventure worth bragging about
come fall.
All
the best-
