Campaign Update

Last October, AU launched its capital campaign, A new AU, at the annual President’s Circle dinner. The goal: $200 million for various improvements to campus, including:

  • $60 million to improve campus facilities including a new SIS building, total renovation of the McKinley building so SOC can have its own home, conversion of the old Experimental Theatre into an annex for Kogod, and renovations to the Kay Spiritual Life Center
  • $45 million for University Endowments (for scholarships, chairs, professorships)
  • $35 million for the new Katzen Arts Center and Greenberg Theatre
  • $20 million for Academic Enhancements (for new centers, new initiatives, and building the library’s collections)
  • $20 million for WAMU
  • $10 million for the Fund for Excellence
  • $5 million for Campus Life and
  • $5 million for Athletics

That evening last October, longtime generous AU friend and donor, Robert Kogod, pledged $15 million toward this significant fundraising effort. Since then momentum has continued. Now, nearly six months later, AU’s campaign total has reached $68.5 million.

“You don’t have to make a major gift to make a difference in this campaign. Even small gifts add up,” says Scott VanDeusen, director of annual campaigns at AU.

Beginning in May, President Ladner will travel to various cities across the country where the most AU alumni live, to discuss the campaign goals and its progress. Already, he is scheduled to visit Baltimore on May 12 at the Center Club, and Washington, D.C. on June 9. Additional trips are being planned for Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, Boston, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. If you live in one of these cities, stay tuned for more details.
