October 2004 I
went to a meeting the other day with 30 fellow AU staffers
who do marketing-communications for AU. As each of the members
went around the Butler Conference Room table describing their
most recent and upcoming events, I was reminded how lucky
we are to work at a place where SO MUCH is going on.
There
were reports about all the happy parents strolling around
during Family Weekend and the KPU speakers who entertained
them – nearly 500 guests came to hear radio voice Bob
Edwards in Bender Arena and more than 1,200 came the next
night to hear former senator and astronaut John Glenn. I gave
a report about Homecoming & Reunion Weekend and the 950+
alums and their families who came back to enjoy AU all over
again. My colleagues talked about upcoming career fairs, new
student programs, the TV networks that various faculty experts
will offer election commentary on next Tuesday night, and
the rooms in which the College Democrats and College Republicans
will gather to watch the election results unfold.
…
which got me to thinking how cool it is that the AU community
is so involved. Whether you’re a fan of Bush or Kerry,
the Sox or the Cardinals, there’s something really comforting
in knowing you can always find AU friends who share your passions
– and who question you about them, just in case you
hadn’t reconsidered lately.
All
the best-
