September 2007
The SUV-driving parents have come and gone, classes have begun, and students from the Class of 2011 are adjusting to dorm life and their new-found freedom. It’s likely that none of our newest “soon-to-be alumni” have yet to realize how quickly the next four years will pass. We know; in the blink of an eye, they’ll be walking across the podium to collect their diplomas, term papers and the Terrace Dining Room quickly becoming distant memories.
Great alumni are made throughout their college careers. As alumni, we need to instill in today’s students that AU is more than just a four-year stint, but a vibrant community experience that keeps on giving long after graduation. Separated only by years, AU alumni are bonded together by our shared experiences on campus and here in the nation’s capital.
The AU Alumni Board is committed to working with current and future alumni to inspire involvement with AU that lasts a lifetime. As such, the Alumni office is cosponsoring with the student-run Kennedy Political Union an evening on Oct. 27 during Alumni Weekend in which White House Correspondents Helen Thomas and David Gregory ’92 will speak about their experiences covering one of the most interesting and sought-after “beats” in the country. Now’s the time to contact your AU friends to plan on coming back to campus for this and many other Alumni Weekend events, Oct. 26-28.
See you in October!
Sincerely,
Brian F. Keane, SPA/BA '89
