January 2008
It’s a busy time here in Washington as the American University community returns from a long holiday break. First up ─ the Inauguration of Neil Kerwin as AU’s 14th president, which takes place at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 8, in Bender Arena. This inauguration ceremony—the official investiture of the president ─ represents the first time that an American University alum will become president of our alma mater. The entire AU community is invited to attend, with a campus-wide reception immediately following the ceremony. Please visit www.american.edu/inauguration for more information.
For those unable to attend the events, consider participating in Eagle Spirit Day from home or work! Wear AU clothing and watch the inauguration video, which will be posted on the AU Web site that evening. Then submit photos of you and your friends sporting AU gear to alumni@american.edu.Those showing the best AU spirit will be featured in American magazine and on the AU Web site.
In related news, Dr. Kerwin is in the process of kicking off AU’s strategic planning process. This promises to be an exhaustive and exciting process that will ultimately create a strategic plan that will become the “road map” for AU for the next decade. Rest assured, alumni will play an important role in this effort. As Dr. Kerwin has stated, “Our alumni have grown impressively, both in numbers and stature, and are an essential asset in our future. I envision a plan with clear goals to promote the lifelong and substantial involvement of alumni in the life of the university.”
As the strategic planning process moves forward, we’ll be looking for your insights, your ideas, and your help. In the meantime, happy 2008, everyone!
Sincerely,
Brian F. Keane, SPA-SOC/BA '89 |
